01 Is there a subscription? +
No. Slate Pro is a single one-time payment that unlocks every Pro surface forever, including all future updates. There is no recurring charge and no account is needed to run the app.
02 What is free versus Pro? +
The open-source core is a full local workspace: chat with any model you bring, chat with your files, the model manager, a two-seat Roundtable, and code in read-only Ask mode. Pro unlocks the full Roundtable, Flow dictation, image generation, voice, agentic coding with Edits and Auto, memory, model compare and more.
03 Is Slate really open source? +
The engine is. You can read the source on GitHub under the MIT licence, build it yourself, and confirm nothing leaves your Mac. Pro is a paid layer on the same app.
04 How does the licence work? +
After you buy, you receive a licence key by email. Open Slate, go to Settings then Licence, paste the key, and Pro unlocks. It never expires and activates on up to three Macs; deactivate one to move it.
05 Which models can I use? +
Bring any compatible local GGUF chat model or a supported local image model. Optional cloud connectors let you add a hosted model with your own credentials; those provider costs stay separate.
06 Do you offer refunds? +
Yes. The EU right of withdrawal applies, plus a 14-day money-back guarantee on top. If Slate is not for you, contact us within 14 days.
07 Is my data private? +
Local conversations, memory, speech and images are processed on your Mac. The only network calls are model downloads you start, the one-time licence check, and any cloud engine you explicitly enable with your own key.
